Working with bonding papers

Bondaweb & bemis are fabric adhesives that come on a paper backing, they stick layers of fabric together, it is cut to the required shape & ironed onto fabric on the paper side. The paper peels off leaving a film of adhesive on the fabric which can be ironed to another layer of fabric to bond them together. They are bought off the roll & in tape form.

When bonding seams & joining garment finishings such as collars & cuffs carefully consider the seam allowances. When pattern drafting you may already have added seam allowances specific to the machine sewn method, these may need cutting off depending on how you are bonding seams together.

Bonding adhesive can be used instead of interfacing as it adds structure to the calico, experiment first on scrap material.
